Bulbophyllum ecornutum

Bulbophyllum ecornutum

A showy epiphyte from the tropical forests of Thailand to W. & S. Malesia, producing large solitary flowers with broad, undulating lateral sepals that curve back at the tips and small, spotted petals flanking a neat, curved labellum. It grows with a compact, creeping habit and firm pseudobulbs each bearing a single leathery leaf.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–60% shade cloth; avoid harsh direct sun to protect the foliage.
  • Temperature: 60–82°F (16–28°C); an Intermediate to Warm grower with a minimum tolerance around 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: 70–85%; mount or grow in a basket with good air movement to keep roots and rhizome healthy.
  • Watering: Water regularly during active growth, allowing the medium to approach dryness briefly between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation.

Additional Notes

Best grown mounted on cork or tree fern, or in a wide shallow basket with a coarse, open bark mix. Plants are shipped bare root and well-established.
