Epidendrum Michael Riley

Epidendrum Michael Riley

A primary hybrid of Epi. medusae × Epi. porphyreum, combining the large, prominently fringed lip of Epi. medusae with the compact habit and bold, few-flowered racemes of Epi. porphyreum. The flowers display narrow, erect acuminate sepals, broader spreading petals, and a very large, wide, prominently fringed lip with a contrasting white center, creating a striking and elegant display above broad, glossy lanceolate leaves.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid direct midday sun to prevent stress on the broad, glossy foliage.
  • Temperature: 54–75°F (12–24°C); an intermediate grower that benefits from moderate temperature fluctuations between day and night.
  • Humidity: 65–85%; good air movement around the roots and stems helps prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the medium to approach dryness between waterings; avoid standing water at the roots.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining bark-based mix. Plants are shipped bare root and well established, ready to settle into their new growing environment.
