Lepanthes lucifer

Lepanthes lucifer

A diminutive epiphytic species from the cloud forests of Central America and northern South America. Flowers emerge successively on thread-like ramicauls from a small, fan-shaped growth; three broad sepals frame a sculptural, reduced floral body, while the petals are fringed with delicate cilia — a hallmark of the genus.

  • Light: 70–80% shade cloth; bright, diffuse light. Avoid any direct sun, which quickly desiccates the small leaves and ramicauls.
  • Temperature: 60–80°F (15–27°C) — Intermediate to warm grower. Tolerates warmer conditions well; avoid prolonged cold below 58°F (14°C).
  • Humidity: 85–95%. Near-constant high humidity is essential; mount on cork or tree fern with live moss to maintain moisture around the roots.
  • Watering: Daily misting or near-daily watering; Lepanthes has no water-storage structures and must never dry out. Use soft, low-mineral water.

Additional Notes

Grown and propagated by Ecuagenera in the highlands of Ecuador. Best suited for terrarium setups or dedicated intermediate-to-warm growing environments with very high humidity. Shipped bare root, well-established.
