Maxillaria Pepe Portilla

Maxillaria Pepe Portilla

A primary hybrid of Max. fractiflexa × Max. speciosa, combining two bold Maxillaria species known for their dramatic flower structure. The blooms are striking and asymmetric, with extraordinarily elongated, recurved sepals in deep orange-amber tones, shorter petals, and a compact lip with dark spotting at the center.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the broad, strap-like foliage.
  • Temperature: 54–75°F (12–24°C); an intermediate grower that adapts well to stable indoor conditions with good air movement.
  • Humidity: 65–80%; consistent humidity is important for healthy root development and prolific blooming.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to partially dry between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the root zone.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining bark-based mix in a medium pot. A showstopping primary hybrid prized for its dramatic, elongated flower form. Shipped bare root in well-established condition.
