Oncidium lykaiosii

Oncidium lykaiosii

A floriferous species from the cloud forests of South America, producing highly branched, arching spikes densely set with medium-sized flowers in the classic dancing-lady form. The broadly spreading, rounded sepals and petals display gently undulate margins without blotching, while the very large, trilobed lip bears an expansive, rounded frontal lobe and a central callus with contrasting dark spotting.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the strap-like foliage.
  • Temperature: 55–75°F (13–24°C); an intermediate grower that benefits from a nighttime temperature drop to encourage blooming.
  • Humidity: 55–75%; tolerates moderate humidity levels, making it well suited to home cultivation.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the medium to approach dryness between waterings; never allow roots to sit in standing water.

Additional Notes

Best cultivated in a fine bark mix in a well-draining container. Plants are shipped bare root and well established.
