Oncidium tipuloides

Oncidium tipuloides

A floriferous epiphyte native to the cloud forests of Ecuador, producing long, well-branched spikes densely set with numerous medium-sized, sweetly honey-scented flowers. The ovate sepals and petals bear bold, irregular maculate spotting with an undulate margin, while the trilobed lip features a wide bilobed frontal lobe and a prominent white central callus flanked by a visible column.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–65% shade cloth; avoid direct midday sun, which can stress the pseudobulbs and foliage.
  • Temperature: 50–68°F (10–20°C); a cool grower that thrives with distinct seasonal temperature variation and consistent air movement.
  • Humidity: 65–85%; high ambient moisture supports vigorous growth and the production of long, multi-branched fragrant spikes.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the medium to approach dryness between waterings; never allow roots to sit in standing water.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a medium bark mix with excellent drainage and good airflow around the roots. Plants are shipped bare root, well established, and ready to adapt quickly to their new growing environment.
